The most serious bacterial disease of broccoli and other brassicas. Produces V-shaped yellow lesions advancing from leaf margins with blackened veins; systemic infection blackens vascular tissue and can collapse the plant. Seedborne and spread by splashing water, equipment, and movement through wet fields.
Foliar disease favored by cool, moist conditions and prolonged leaf wetness. Causes angular yellow leaf lesions with grayish sporulation on the underside, and can discolor and downgrade harvested heads. Most damaging on transplants and early in field development.
